Chicago storms, power outage, hot weather, blah

I just came out of an almost 3 day power outage and I can tell you, I don't like life without electricity. It was tough. The nights were hot and if you didn't have a generator, you got to listen to your neighbors loud generators through your open windows all night long. All our cell phones had spotty reception, most calls could not be completed and barely any internet access. Text messages were sent sporadically and sometimes hours after sending. Recharging phones had to be done in the car. Food was spoiled in freezers and fridges, trees were down everywhere and most businesses, including grocery stores, fast food and gas stations, were closed.

The upside is we all hung out together and were assured that if something bad ever happened long term, we can all count on each other. Strangers became pals in this shared experience as we traded snippets of info about downed trees, no info from Com Ed on restoration times and general chit chat.

So, maybe, it wasn't that bad :)
