New Fragrances Added

Apple of My Eye: A wonderful combination of crisp, juicy apples with the "down to earth" notes of fresh green grass, dandelions and red clover.

Asian Pear Lily: A beautiful, complex accord containing top notes of nashi pear, apple and leafy greenery; followed by middle notes of jasmine, lily of the valley and rose petals; all sitting on base notes of pear nectar, musk and peony blossoms.

Ed Hardy for Women: A color explosion of fruits opens the scent with tropical mango, wild strawberry, and ruby red grapefruit. Vintage floral loveliness with a rock 'n roll edge brings a dark sexiness with black freesia. This flowering contrast merges into a background of hot skin musk and warm soulful amber. The exciting composition rounds out with the alluring embrace of amber and rose accords.

Frozen Margarita: This fun cocktail scent begins with top notes of lime & mandarin orange essential oils including southern valencia, lemon and sea salt; followed by middle notes of frothy iced guava nectar, strawberries and pineapple; all sitting on base notes of brown sugar, vanilla rum and musk.

Orange Cream Cupcake: A delectable aroma consisting of top notes of orange peel, tangy lemon and citron zests; combined with rich notes of creamsicle frosting, brown sugar, sweet buttercream, drizzled rum, bittersweet chocolate and vanilla extract.

Snickerdoodle Latte: Rich roasted Columbian coffee is blended with spices and hints of toasted nut in this beverage sensation. A base of vanilla butter cream adds tempting sweetness to the blend.

Texas Barrel Cactus: The Texan dry heat beats upon bundles of petitgrain & blue lavender intertwined by hyacinth & agave creating the succulent cactus plant found in a world of the hot desert life.

Tooth Fairy Taffy: Luscious blend of confectionary sugar paired with fruit syrup of wild berry, orange crush, black cherry & tangerine and molded into vanilla taffy that creates a sweet tooth, bubblegum dream.

Twilight in the Woods: As the night seeps into the redwood forest, misty moss and patchouli gently glide over the sandal trees as the white musky clouds dampen the amber glow. Top notes of mandarin balm, tangelo & eucalyptus; middle notes of jungle moss, patchouli leaf & sandal tree; base notes of redwood forest, amber glow & musk.

Wild West: A wild and masculine scent combining top notes of tumble weeds, basil leaves and tonka beans; followed by middle notes of brushed suede, earthy patchouli and amber stone; all sitting on manly base notes of aged saddle leather, red cedar and musk.

Goodbye little brother, off to Afghanistan

Today my youngest brother, Ian, deployed to Afghanistan for 7 months. He's a Marine, infantry, so he'll be on the ground, on the front lines with all the bad guys. I'm terrified and proud, I'm praying for his, and all our soldiers, safe return. My brother-in-law deploys in May and my sister in June. Does anyone else have multiple family members deployed simultaneously?

Family Health Partnership Gala & Dinner Auction

Today I dropped off a gift bag packed full of fresh made bath & body goodies for the Family Health Partnership Gala & Dinner Auction being held on Friday, April 23rd. I would attend, but as I've posted previously, I'll be on vacation next week. If you decide you'd like to go, here's the web site link:

Health care is a huge problem in our country and with so many underinsured and uninsured, places like the FHP Clinic are so needed to fill in the gap. Cathy Patenaude was kind enough to give me a tour today, they've been helping people for 14 years and I was pleased to see that my primary care physician, Dr. Bonnie Bremer, is one of the doctor volunteers. I also met Kathy Rauch, who is the volunteer coordinator.

So even if you can't attend the gala, donations are welcome as well as volunteering opportunities, just contact Kathy Rauch at krauch@hpclinic.org.

If you do attend, here's a peek at the gift bag I dropped off today, it is packed full with almost $200 worth of scented goodies:

Glass Slipper Project

Last year I was in my sisters wedding and wore a beautiful full length strappy gown. Now the event is over, I was wondering what to do with the dress, store it, sell it or other. I heard an ad on WBBM-780 regarding the Glass Slipper Project and checked it out. From their web site, http://www.glassslipperproject.org/:

How to make room in your closet and make prom dreams come true...

Here's your chance to help a Chicago high school student be the "Belle of the Ball" at her high school prom. The Glass Slipper Project collects new and almost-new formal dresses and accessories and provides them, free of charge, to Chicago high school students who are unable to purchase their own prom attire. We distribute the dresses at Glass Slipper "boutiques," where each student receives individual assistance from a volunteer "personal shopper" as she shops for the dress of her dreams. To date, we've helped more than 10,000 young women attend their proms in style!

They also have a Facebook page. I just boxed up the dress, earrings and an undergarment and shipped it today.

Moraine Hills State Park

Recently I blogged about my 2 favorite hiking parks, Glacial Park & Volo Bog Trails. Today I tried out Moraine Hills State Park. It was hard to find a map online, I tracked one down and I'm glad I did. This place is massive and very busy. I like how big it is but didn't like how crowded it is. I'm not used to bikers whipping up behind you and with my iPod blaring, I don't hear them, so I'm forced to concentrate on staying to the right. The paths are very clean, well paved and not very hilly, which is good if you're bringing kids & strollers. There seem to be alot of signs prohibiting you from going off the path, which I'm not used to, but I can see why. You really need to stay on top of where your car is and where you are going:

They do have a really nice bog walk/pier walk, which kids would love, I'm taking my 2 year old niece there tomorrow. They also are generous with the playground equipment and bathrooms. I think I'll reserve this one for weekday hikes and the hit the smaller ones for the weekends, that way I can avoid much of the crowds. And since I'm the boss, I can do this...which is definitely a small business owner perk.
